Maret Athletic Field Project Moves Forward
On April 6, 2022, the D.C. Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) unanimously approved the Maret School’s application to build athletic fields at Episcopal Center for Children (ECC). In announcing their decision, the BZA Commissioners offered strong support of the project and its benefits to the community.
They also thanked the Maret School for its willingness to mitigate neighborhood impacts and adjust plans. The BZA Commissioners applauded the work of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3/4G, which spent months holding meetings, listening to community feedback, and passed a 28-page resolution for the project.
This project will help ECC reopen and return ECC to serving children coping with emotional disabilities. We thank everyone who called to voice support, attended many online meetings, provided testimony to the BZA or the ANC, and wrote letters or emails to support the project.

Renovation Updates Are Coming!
The ECC Board of Directors continues to invest in ECC’s future, looking toward reopening as a therapeutic day school and starting a new afterschool enrichment program.
Two of ECC’s buildings will undergo renovation and updates, while still preserving the history and charm of our campus. The updated facility will contribute mightily to the special and essential work that has taken place at ECC for over 100 years to support children and families.
Renovation work will begin in the next few weeks and will in part include a facelift to the classrooms and offices, as well as updating the gymnasium/multipurpose room, and the indoor recreational space. We will be doing plumbing and electrical work, as well as painting and technology updates.
Updates on the renovation will be posted on this website and Facebook.
